About The Position

Serves as a Supervisory IT Specialist in the Strategic Solution Section, AMK-213. This role involves serving as a Unit Manager in the Custom Solutions Section (AMK-213) and acting as the first-level manager for a technical staff of computer specialists. These specialists are responsible for providing planning, developmental research, analysis, programming, and operational support for major national FAA computer and infrastructure systems, as well as systems for DOT and other Federal agencies. Managerial duties encompass planning, communicating organizational vision and objectives, setting priorities, assigning tasks and responsibilities, monitoring and evaluating performance, coaching and developing employee capabilities, approving leave, and taking or recommending corrective/disciplinary actions. The position also involves managing an assigned budget, staff, and other resources to achieve project/program objectives, managing the budget, requesting additional resources as needed, and contributing to budget planning processes by projecting short-term future needs. A comprehensive knowledge of the technical aspects of the work, budget, human resources, administrative policies, and organizational objectives is required. Work is typically governed by established guidelines, policies, and procedures, with routine problems resolved independently and complex issues requiring consultation with higher-level management. The role may involve assisting in the development of new policies and procedures, with performance reviewed periodically by higher-level management.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must submit an SF50.
  • A one-year supervisor/managerial probationary period may be required.
  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • To qualify for this position at the FV-J (FG/GS-14) level, you must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I (FG/GS-13) level.
  • Specialized experience includes: Experience which demonstrates accomplishment of computer project assignments that require a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled.
  • This knowledge is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant analyzed a number of alternative approaches in the process of advising management concerning major aspects of ADP system design such as what systems inter-relationships must be considered or what operating mode, system software, and/or equipment configuration is most appropriate for a given project.
  • Also includes experience in the application of project management methodologies in support of a large/complex IT environment.
  • Experience operating under ISO 9001:2000 and/or ISO 2000 certifications in an IT environment.
  • Ability to work on budgets and deadlines.
  • Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.

  • Well-Qualified applicants will possess documented experience that demonstrates an understanding of service level agreements (SLAs) and the customer to service provider relationship, including experience determining full cost recovery, and experience managing large or multiple software development projects through the software development life cycle (SDLC).

  • Resolves routine problems independently but consults with higher level management when existing guidelines are not available or applicable to complex problems.
  • May be called upon to assist in developing new policies and procedures.
