This role supervises a therapy services department, developing and implementing overall therapy policies, procedures, services, and programs. It also involves developing and implementing overall designated therapy setting’s rehabilitation policies and procedures and treatment protocols consistent with the health care facility's vision, mission, and strategic plan. The position supervises and expands health rehabilitation teams and programs to ensure efficient and effective operations in the rehabilitation services department. It participates in the measurement, assessment, and improvement of rehabilitation services and programs to produce quality patient/resident care with optimal patient/resident outcomes. The role provides input for the annual operating and capital expenditure budgets for the rehabilitation services department and assists and encourages contribution to strategic planning, day-to-day operations, and attainment of the organization's strategic initiatives. It provides day-to-day work guidance for a team or work group, often in a shift and/or in the completion of tactical processes. The Supervisor uses a combination of knowledge and experience to provide technical direction, performs staff work in their area of expertise, and provides formal leadership and patient/resident care to meet department needs. They are accountable for expense management and team financial/quality/service/efficiency targets, aware of budget targets and the team's impact on achieving financial goals, and have discretion over limited expenditures for the work unit. The role plans, organizes, and delivers specialized therapy programs that help clients/patients/residents recover and improve their mobility, relieve pain, and increase strength. It conducts examinations, evaluations, and interventions for patients/residents affected by injury or disease, utilizing tools and techniques to administer therapy interventions following safeguards. Documentation of client's/patient's/resident's information for evaluation, establishing therapeutic plans, and modifying them if necessary are key responsibilities. The Supervisor educates clients/patients/residents and their family members about treatment plans/schedules and self-exercises for home continuation. Knowledge of and utilization of appropriate age-related treatments and evaluations relating to the needs of clients/patients/residents is required. The role demonstrates and incorporates knowledge of current research into daily treatment of clients/patients/residents and may treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnosis and disorders. Documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meeting all regulatory requirements are essential. The Supervisor demonstrates the level of treatment associated with their specialty and adheres to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organizations.
