The Los Angeles Unified School District’s Facilities Services Division is responsible for the execution of the District’s school construction bond programs for construction projects, the maintenance and operations of schools, and the utilization of existing assets. The Asset Management Branch has the strategic responsibility of the District's facility planning function, which includes long range master planning, project development, performance specifications, and construction acquisition programs for new and charter schools, while providing functional direction over areas that include Planning and Design Management, School Management Services, Real Estate, Standards, and Relocatable Housing. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.
  • Three years of drafting experience or one year of experience in supervising a staff conducting basic drafting functions.
  • A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of a motor vehicle, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Courses in engineering or architectural drafting, data processing, survey methods, mathematics, and computer-aided design is preferable.
  • Strong ability to organize, supervise, and coordinate the work of diverse teams while effectively managing workflow and multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and District systems, including CAFM modules for AutoCAD and Vault.
  • Working knowledge of drafting techniques, tools, and equipment, as well as District policies, standards, and procedures related to school building design and construction.
  • Knowledgeable in data management systems, records management practices, and basic mathematics and plane geometry.
  • Skilled in interpreting plot plans, site drawings, and legal property descriptions, and can compile, analyze, and present information clearly and concisely.
  • Works collaboratively with District staff, consultants, architects, and engineers to support successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, scheduling, assigning and supervising Engineering Aides within the Plot Plan or Plan Vault Unit.
  • Overseeing the collection and archiving of facilities-related construction documents, including Division of the State Architect (DSA) stamped original tracings and specifications, “as-built” drawings and electronic files.
  • Verifying the accuracy of “as-built” drawings and other documentation.
  • Certifying the receipt of “as-built” drawings at the conclusion of each project and supervises their filing in the records storage vault.
  • Overseeing special projects involving the procurement of statistical data and other data.
  • Reviewing assigned labor hours to assure that they do not exceed the number of positions budgeted.
  • Retrieving project information from the District’s computer system for project management analysis, planning, and construction and for generating reports.
