The supervisor for peer services is an individual who self-identifies as being in recovery from a substance abuse disorder and/or a mental illness. The supervisor provides ongoing education and support to peer staff on peer focused services including teaching peer staff the knowledge and skills they need to perform the work. The supervisor provides mentorship and support through strength-based interventions, education, coaching, and assists staff to grow professionally within the peer scope of practice. The supervisor works to successfully support the integration of peer services into the agency’s departments. The peer supervisor also provides direct peer services and facilitates groups as needed. Services provided by peers (people who have lived experience with a substance use disorder and/or mental health treatment) include outreach, mentoring, teaching and advocacy.
