About The Position

This is an interim position for a Supervisor of Payroll, responsible for providing leadership in the administration of the payroll department. The role ensures the timely and accurate completion of all retirement reports and manages the application of salary and wage schedules, along with all state and parish school board regulations concerning employee benefits and deductions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field with at least 24 hours in Accounting.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in school finance.
  • Payroll supervision experience preferred.
  • Such additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the payroll department, including the application of salary and wage schedules and all rules and regulations of the State of Louisiana and the parish school board relating to retirement, withholding tax, sick leave pay, sabbatical leave pay, insurance, and other employee benefits.
  • Assist in the supervision of the Accounting Department staff.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining accounting records in accordance with State Law and School Board policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of payment of monthly retirement reports.
  • Prepare sick leave certification statements and annual salary information on retiring employees.
  • Prepare certification of annual salary and days worked for past and current employees for the retirement system.
  • Prepare annual income tax statements.
  • Prepare the PEP Report for budget purposes of all school personnel employed on October 1, of each school year.
  • Prepare PEP Report on total actual salaries of all school personnel whose salary is charged between objects 110 through 119 or object 140.
  • Assist Data Processing Department in developing new programs required by the payroll department.
  • Work with State and Federal Auditors each year.
  • Establish and execute a professional growth plan.
  • Keep abreast of new State and Federal laws, as well as changes in current law, through written media, televised media, and workshops.
  • Work effectively with school personnel and staff in answering and solving any problems they may have with payroll or retirement procedures.
  • Consistently demonstrate self-direction.
  • Submit accurate records and reports promptly.
  • Exhibit professional ethics at all times.
  • Foster open communication and positive relationships with the school personnel and staff, as well as the community.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Finance Director.
  • Follow state and school board policies.
