Supervisor Multi Axis Machining

A & R Engineering Co Inc•Carson, CA
•$105,000 - $120,000

About The Position

A&R is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Supervisor with multi-axis machining and CNC programming experience for its aerospace and defense manufacturing facility. The role spans two departments and more than 18 CNC mills, with responsibility for planning workload and assigning work to optimize output. It combines CNC programming with an opportunity to develop as a manufacturing supervisor. The position is critical to accepting customer requests and planning and implementing machined-part production, from quoting and router development through CNC programming and first-article execution. The ideal candidate has experience in precision CNC programming and Design for Manufacturability, including efficiently and compliantly launching new parts into production. Proficiency in programming multi-axis CNC machines is essential. A&R is a contract manufacturer experiencing strong demand growth, which it expects to continue for several years. The position offers career-development opportunities and progressive earning potential. Compensation is listed as DOE, with a range of $105,000–$120,000.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in aerospace CNC machining, with demonstrated expertise in CNC programming and setup.
  • Strong proficiency with Mastercam or Fusion 360.
  • Deep understanding of G-code, GD&T, blueprint reading, and aerospace tolerancing.
  • Experience working in AS9100/AS9102-regulated environments.
  • Ability to estimate machining time, material requirements, and tooling needs for quoting.
  • Familiarity with aerospace alloys such as titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Ability to work as a team with programmers and operators.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR: a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, political asylee, or refugee.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a make-to-blueprint job shop environment.
  • Experience and understanding of master routers, including item masters requiring bills of materials and routing sequences for CNC operations, or willingness and ability to learn.
  • Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, specifically Syteline, JobBOSS, Epicor, or ProShop.
  • Experience with the first-article inspection process per AS9102.
  • Lean or Six Sigma training.

Responsibilities

  • Assign work and maximize manufacturing throughput.
  • Analyze customer blueprints, 3D models, and specifications to assess manufacturability and prepare time and material estimates for quoting.
  • Develop and update manufacturing router sequences, bills of materials, and work centers for new and existing product lines; determine estimated setup and cycle times to maintain accurate ERP data.
  • Select tooling, fixturing, and machine allocation based on material and part geometry for machined-part fabrication using 2- to 5-axis lathes, 3- and 4-axis horizontal and vertical mills, 5-axis mills, and conventional machining equipment.
  • Collaborate with customers and Production and Quality teams on Design for Manufacturability and efficient manufacturing methods and techniques while ensuring AS9100 compliance.
  • Organize the machine shop, priorities, and workflow to meet customer requirements.
  • Program CNC mill and lathe operations, primarily for new customer requests, using Mastercam or Fusion 360 and customer blueprints and 3D models.
  • Perform first-article setups and dry runs, and edit programs to validate accuracy and efficiency.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to verify dimensions during first-article production runs.
  • Train machine operators on setup sheets, fixturing, and safe operation of new programs.
  • As needed, assist with moving materials through affected work centers to meet customer schedules and troubleshoot bottlenecked processes or operations.
  • Maintain revision control for CNC programs and tooling instructions.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
