About The Position

The Supervisor Facilities Maintenance role leads a team of skilled technicians in applying cost-effective maintenance practices that prevent and resolve customer and maintenance issues and improve the reliability of supported building systems. The position is part of Facilities Services’ Maintenance Operations team at the University of Texas at Austin, which provides maintenance services for university facilities. The team uses a zone-based structure, flexible work hours, data analysis, and technology to meet operational goals and provide responsive service to the university community. The supervisor maintains shop productivity, efficiency, cost effectiveness, and quality; monitors key performance indicators and budgets; and ensures timely customer service, clear communication, and compliance with safety requirements. The role coordinates maintenance work and, when contractors are more economical than in-house staff, prepares scopes of work, obtains bids and funding, selects contractors, and administers their work. It also handles shop documentation, coordinates with other shops, uses plans and specifications to estimate costs and plan preventive maintenance, and participates in project reviews, staff meetings, and training. The job is based at the UT Main Campus and is scheduled for 40 hours per week across five eight-hour days, with the schedule determined with the supervisor. Some overtime, evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call work may be required. The position is designated essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed. Work may involve all-weather and hazardous environments, physical labor, elevated or confined-space work, and operation of job-related equipment and university vehicles.
