About The Position

Welty Energy is looking for a Supervisor of Construction Services to join our Transmission and Substation Project Management - Construction Services team! Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE & I), an affiliate of Welty Enterprises, is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, distribution engineering, substation engineering, and construction oversight on transmission, substation, and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV. Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, Welty Energy & Infrastructure currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Eastern regions of the U.S. As a Supervisor of Construction Services, you will foster client relationships, staff engagement, and process improvement while striving to become the best customer centric professional services consulting firm for electric utilities in our target geographic region. You will supervise a team of Construction Services Department employees who oversee substation, transmission, and distribution projects and related functions for a Welty Energy client and will provide support as the subject matter expert for safety and construction to both internal and external stakeholders. Although remote, in that we do not have a physical office in this area, this role is preferred to be based out of Pennsylvania with travel to client sites as required, or comfortable with 100% travel to the region.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of construction experience.
  • Electric utility construction is a must.
  • Strong understanding of the technical aspects of transmission line, distribution, and substation projects construction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, consisting of clearly conveying project objectives, expectations, and feedback to their team, as well as effectively communicating with clients, stakeholders, and other departments.
  • Effective leadership and organizational skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate their team, set clear goals, and manage conflicts while supporting a positive team culture.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn client's systems, tools, and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or similar industry experience is preferred.
  • Degree requirement may be waived for 15+ years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of Construction Site Coordinators (CSCs) who oversee substation, transmission, and distribution projects for our client(s).
  • Foster and maintain a relationship with a designated client and be an advocate for Welty Energy's construction support services and capabilities.
  • Foster a safety-focused culture and will support the facilitation of safety trainings per the Welty Energy safety protocol.
  • Consult on projects where your expertise and guidance are needed, e.g., constructability, site walk-downs, schedule development, outage review, pre-bids, pre-construction meetings.
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Managers, Project Managers, and Engineers to provide support as requested to deliver excellence to Welty Energy's client(s).
  • Be an SME with each of our client's software, tools, and processes that are utilized for construction and safety.
  • Be involved with providing training to incoming and existing Construction Site Coordinators, Project Coordinators, Project Managers, and Engineers as well as providing day-to-day guidance to your team.
  • Coordinate project coverage when Construction Site Coordinators are on vacation, PTO, or unavailable.
  • Participate in meetings that are led by your direct reports or their corresponding Assistant Project Managers/Project Managers/Senior Project Managers.
  • Support the Welty Energy Management Team and collaborate and consult for the benefit for of the organization.
  • May assist with the pursuit of new business and existing and/or potential clients in conjunction with the Welty Energy Management Team.
  • Complete project as a working supervisor for specific projects as needed and as determined by your Manager, Director, and/or other Welty Leadership and will also support CSC team for coverage of projects.
  • Complete specific tasks as needed and as determined by your Manager, Director, or other Welty Leadership.
  • Drive functional excellence and client satisfaction.
  • Foster a Welty virtual environment via Microsoft Teams.
  • Assign projects accordingly to your team to maintain resource workload for the team of CSC's in collaboration with the client.
  • Support your counterparts and direct reports with project assignments.
  • Drive utilization and performance for your team.
  • Drive profitability on your team's projects.
  • Assist your manager with establishing goals that align with Welty Energy's rocks, including growth goals / targets.
  • Be accountable for goals as established by you and your manager.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and retaining high quality talent.
  • Assist your manager with leadership of team meetings.
  • Minimize or eliminate an environment of siloed operation between construction, project management, and engineering.
  • Champion the Welty Safety Committee as described by the Welty health and safety protocol.
  • Support career development for members of your team.
  • Participate with your manager in career conversations for your team.
  • Participate in discussions with your manager regarding the performance of your staff, but have no direct responsibility for salary administration, salary increase recommendations, or bonus recommendations.
  • Support training for staff.
  • Support strategic goals of Welty Energy.
  • Attend site visits with your team as needed.
  • Perform safety inspections regularly at project locations.
  • Consult on projects with your team and when request by a Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Portfolio Manager, or other Welty Energy staff.
  • Support proposal and bid package reviews when requested.
  • Support the manager to establish, conduct, and maintain construction services department training.
  • Act as a role model for Welty Core Values, OPTIC (Openness, Passion, Teamwork, Integrity, Customer Centricity) and Welty Energy strategic objectives.
  • Share knowledge and train additional team members.
  • Establish trust and healthy rapport with all Welty Energy staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Welty Energy Management Team to foster a productive and encouraging environment.
  • Establish SMART goals for your team and track progress toward those goals.
  • Meet timesheet and expenses expectations including appropriate application to corresponding projects and submittal and approval deadlines (weekly) for you and your team.
