About The Position

The Child, Youth, & Family Supervisor oversees programming for children aged 6 weeks to 18 years, ensuring high-quality experiences for all participants. This position provides leadership through supervision and coaching of staff and volunteers, as well as fostering a safe and supportive environment.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Recreation, Teaching, Child Care Related programs, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of related experience in developing and facilitating community-based programming and services for a wide demographic base
  • Experience training and supervising large staff and volunteer teams
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR‐C & AED certificate
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging programs for children and youth aged 6 weeks to 18 years, ensuring age-appropriate activities and curriculum.
  • Recruit, train, and manage staff and volunteers, overseeing scheduling, payroll, coaching, and ongoing professional development.
  • Participate as an active member of the YMCA leadership team, contributing to community events, employee engagement initiatives, and cross-departmental projects.
  • Represent PGFY and YMCA BC at community programming initiatives, including Canada Day celebrations, ParticipACTION events, and other local outreach opportunities.
  • Plan and facilitate child and youth events for community groups, such as school-based initiatives like Grade 6 transition programs.
  • Serve as Duty Manager at least one evening per week and one weekend day, addressing on-the-spot issues for staff, volunteers, and members.
  • Collaborate with the Center Manager to develop the departmental operating budget, and work with the CM to monitor fiscal health and address variances promptly.
  • Lead the Child and Youth department, managing high-volume daily services, recruitment, performance management, payroll, scheduling, and administrative reporting.
  • Ensure compliance and readiness, including verifying staff certifications, maintaining program spaces, and ensuring equipment and supplies are in good condition.
  • Respond to member feedback and continuously improve services, adjusting schedules and programs to enhance the overall child and youth experience.
