About The Position

GFL Environmental is looking for a Bottle Depot Supervisor to join our team in Victoria, BC! This role involves safely collecting and separating recyclable materials and preparing them for shipping in a safe, efficient manner. The Supervisor will work under the direction of the Operations Manager to ensure the accurate flow of information, including the movement of material into and out of the depot.

Requirements

  • Wear all mandatory personal protective equipment as assigned, such as CSA approved safety shoes, hearing protection, high visibility clothing, gloves, safety glasses
  • Follow all Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation
  • Temperature – dress according to the weather as there is no climate control in the plant.
  • Forklifts are a hazard when traveling throughout the depot. Be aware of your surroundings and always wear high visibility clothing.
  • Slip, Trip and Fall hazards are present throughout the depot. Follow designated walkways.
  • Strain injuries could occur for lifting of heavy items – always follow proper lifting techniques.
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide valid documentation confirming their eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to their start date.

Responsibilities

  • Answers and directs all phone calls in a professional manner.
  • General Office duties such as ordering office supplies and other duties assigned.
  • Scheduling the staff
  • Managing the cash machine and reports
  • Maintain a clean work space
  • Ensuring all supplies are in place when needed
  • Shipping of material on a weekly basis
  • Train the assistant supervisor in all processes related to the smooth operations of the bottle depot
  • Ensuring the depot cell phone is up to date with contacts and that it is the sole form of communication, outside the work space, with employees and shippers
  • Delegate tasks when appropriate and staff have required skills
  • Role modeling the behavior expected from the employees such as : wearing steel toed boots at all time, no personal cell phone use at work, speaking to employees with respect, using professional language when communicating to employees and customers
  • Co-ordinates loads for material shipped from the Depot. Including the accurate making of bills of lading, customs documents (if required) and loading sheets and inventory.
  • Directs drivers to the correct area for scaling in and out for loading.
  • Informs loaders the correct material to be loaded.
  • Verifies all information with regards to inventory movement, ensures correct information regarding booking numbers, amounts, and destination are given to loaders.
  • Verifies with the carriers the correct information for pick up and delivers prior to sending to loading area.
  • Report to Manager any irregularities
  • Daily yard check of all inventory on site
  • Confirms accuracy of all incoming / outgoing inventory.
  • Troubleshoot Problems within the inventory point of sale
  • Submit weekly/daily inbound reports to the Operations manager
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.
