About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF), John Dempsey Hospital is recruiting qualified individuals for a Supervising Nurse position. This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, on the second shift (2:45 pm - 11:15 pm). The position is located in Middletown, CT. The Supervising Nurse will lead as a shift supervisor, manage a team of direct care staff, and act in an administrative and clinical supervisory role for twenty-four-hour nursing coverage. The core mission of DCF is to work together with families and communities to improve child safety, ensure more children have permanent families, and advance the overall well-being of children. John Dempsey Hospital is a state-administered psychiatric facility and hospital providing comprehensive care to children and adolescents under eighteen with severe mental illness and related behavioral and emotional problems.

Requirements

• Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital, regional, institutional or psychiatric setting.
• Must possess and retain a current license or temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut OR hold a Multistate or Compact Registered Nurse license.

• May be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions.

Responsibilities

• Lead as a shift supervisor
• Manage a team of direct care staff
• Act in an administrative and clinical supervisory role for twenty-four-hour nursing coverage
• Plan, organize, and direct health services for an assigned program, unit(s), facility or geographical area
• Ensure that goals, objectives and work performed are consistent with standards and that quality care is provided to individuals
• Provide clinical guidance to nursing staff
• Select, develop, motivate and evaluate staff
• Conduct performance evaluations
• Monitor the quality of documentation, records and other information concerning services and care
• Ensure that resources are available to provide quality services
• Participate in the development of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services
• Participate in the development of long-range plans for health care programs
• Act as a liaison with other units, agencies and outside organizations
• Prepare, analyze and evaluate reports and other information concerning the delivery of services
• Respond to psychiatric or medical emergencies
• May physically restrain individuals
• May oversee all nursing operations in the absence of the Director of Nursing
