About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction (DOC), has exciting opportunities for Dentists to join our talented team in the Health Services Unit at the Corrigan Correctional Center in Montville with coverage to Brooklyn Correctional Institution in Brooklyn, and MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield. This recruitment may be used to fill vacancies throughout State correctional facilities as openings occur at any of our 14 locations. As a State of Connecticut Dentist, you will provide comprehensive dental care, conduct examinations to diagnose, treat and educate patients on their oral conditions/diseases, engage in a rewarding career, work with a collaborative team to achieve success, and make an impact and gain valuable experience in the public sector. These positions are Full Time (40 Hours), first shift, 7 AM-3 PM, Monday to Friday. As of July 1, 2026, incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. 1320a-7b(F). The Brooklyn Correctional Institution is a level 3 medium-security facility offering extensive programming. The Corrigan Correctional Institution offers an extensive anger management curriculum and a close monitoring unit. The MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution is a level 4/5, high/maximum security level multi-mission facility for adult males. The Department of Correction shall strive to be a leader in progressive correctional practices and partnered re-entry initiatives to support responsive evidence-based practices geared toward supporting reintegration and reducing recidivism under the Department's supervision. Safety and security shall be a priority component of this responsibility, coinciding with an unwavering respect for the human dignity of staff, victims, citizens and offenders.

Requirements

• Must possess and maintain a license as a dentist issued by the Department of Public Health in accordance with the applicable Connecticut General Statutes.

• Provides preventive dental maintenance and acute dental care including oral examinations and diagnoses, operative and prosthetic dentistry, exodontia, periodontia, radiology and prophylaxis
• Consults with physicians in order to aid in medical diagnoses by investigating possible foci of dental and oral infections which might affect physical condition of clients
• Requests laboratory tests and x-rays
• Administers drugs
• Responds to dental emergencies
• Educates clients and staff on importance of good oral health and dental services offered by facility
• May participate in instruction of dental residents and dental assistant students
• Performs related duties as required
