About The Position

Basalite Building Products, LLC is one of the largest manufacturers of concrete masonry products in the Western United States, producing structural block, interlocking paving stones, engineered wall systems, retaining walls, ornamental and garden products, and sack goods. As a Plant Superintendent, under the supervision of the Plant Manager, this position supports the Block and Sack Plant departments in all areas of production and production scheduling, equipment troubleshooting, maintenance programs, inventory control, personnel management, production analysis, raw material purchasing, and enforcing the plant safety program. The role is also responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn, understand, and instruct in the process of running all equipment used in the manufacturing and secondary processing of block and sack products.
  • Ability to assist in troubleshooting equipment problems and production maintenance scheduling.
  • Understanding of all production reporting and types of products produced.
  • Ability to oversee the request, purchase, storage, organization, and status of spare parts.
  • Ability to monitor, record, and assess production KPI’s to optimize performance.
  • Ability to order raw materials for Block and Sack Plants.
  • Ability to maintain proper stock inventories.
  • Ability to manage employees within state guidelines for breaks, lunches, etc., and apply best practices for labor, parts, and maintenance spending.
  • Ability to monitor and approve employee actions in EC (HRIS) in a timely manner.
  • Ability to analyze and approve time data audit report of recorded time and errors and track attendance in UKG.
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction for plant supervisors on employee and production issues.
  • Ability to assess staff skillset and address essential training needs to promote retention.
  • Ability to provide input and follow company procedure on relative cost center expenses.
  • Ability to follow company policy process for plant / capital expenditures.
  • Ability to assist in managing annual / monthly plant expenses according to approved budget.
  • Ability to contribute to annual budgeting / planning process.
  • Ability to provide assistance in month-end close processes for location of responsibility.
  • Ability to assist in the month-end and semi-annual inventories.
  • Ability to abide by all safety rules set forth by company and governmental regulatory agencies and ensure that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
  • Ability to supervise groups of employees.
  • Ability to monitor and approve employee schedule and daily time.
  • Ability to work well with all production, yard, and maintenance personnel and promote teamwork.
  • Ability to abide by all company Safety rules, including ensuring new hire safety is complete, Job Hazard Analysis is reviewed and signed off, Machine Specific Training is complete, and attending/participating in weekly safety huddles.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions to develop the skills of the employees and communicate company standards and goals.
  • Ability to ensure that new employees including temporary employees receive general orientation and location specific task training.
  • Ability to assist with conducting performance reviews for any direct reports.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts and weekends, as needed.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Ability to operate and fill in on equipment when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in maintaining a high standard of quality in all areas of production from origin to shipment of product.
  • Learn, understand and be able to instruct in the process of running all equipment used in the manufacturing and secondary processing of block and sack products.
  • Able to assist in troubleshooting equipment problems as well as assisting in production maintenance scheduling (PM’s, breakdowns, safety issues etc.).
  • Oversee the request, purchase, storage, organization and status of spare parts used in all areas of the facility, including Block, Sack, Secondary and mobile equipment in the yard.
  • Monitor, record and assess production KPI’s to optimize production performance to meet established output metrics.
  • Understands all production reporting and types of products produced.
  • Hold team accountable to meeting production schedule and objectives.
  • Orders raw material for Block and Sack Plants (cement, aggregates, additives, colors, bags etc.).
  • Maintains proper stock inventories (raw material, finished goods, equipment, parts, etc.).
  • Manage employees within state guidelines for breaks, lunches, etc. and apply best practice as it relates to labor, parts and maintenance spending.
  • Work with HR for recruiting and hiring assistance.
  • Responsible for monitoring and approving employee actions in EC (HRIS) in a timely manner.
