The Spt Health and Safety will plan, organize, manage and control industrial hygiene and safety programs. Working under limited supervision, you will have substantial latitude to set objectives, priorities and timelines that may impact departments or individual work groups. This position may manage supervisors and professional individual contributors.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and nine (9) years of experience in Health & Safety or related, OR
  • Associates degree and seven (7) years of experience in Health & Safety or related, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience in Health & Safety or related, OR
  • Master’s degree and three (3) year of experience in Health & Safety or related.
  • Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam.
  • Candidates must pass all training and/or testing.
  • Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, which may include shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, develop, and monitor occupational health and safety practices for the site.
  • Conduct hazard evaluations and risk assessments; coordinate with division leadership to implement corrective actions. Mentor Health & Safety staff in this process.
  • Lead complex and high-severity incident investigations and root cause analyses. Provide guidance to management during crises. Collaborate with external parties in emergency response efforts. Maintain accident records as required by law.
  • Provide guidance and counsel to site management on applicable programs, practices, and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure all training mandated by MSHA, OSHA, or other regulatory bodies is delivered and updated appropriately. Serve as the secondary site contact for these agencies.
  • Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting for health and safety systems and issues.
  • Coordinate vendor and contractor activities related to services and equipment.
  • Work with employees to correct deficiencies. Implement disciplinary procedures and recommend terminations. Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions.
  • Oversee and recommend staff selection. Participate in the hiring process.
  • Represent the site/functional department on company-sponsored steering teams.
