About The Position

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is an 1890 Land-Grant HBCU with a diverse student population, competitive degree offerings and stellar faculty. Requirements

  • Must be a current undergraduate or graduate college student, or a recent college graduate.
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher (official transcript verification may be required).
  • Ability to reside in the assigned residence hall for the duration of the six-week program.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pass required background checks (if applicable).

  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, or youth engagement experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide structured tutorial assistance to all Upward Bound students in core academic subjects.
  • Assist students with assignments, study strategies, time management, and skill development.
  • Monitor academic progress and communicate concerns to program staff.
  • Reinforce college readiness skills and promote academic excellence.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to all participants.
  • Promote leadership, integrity, accountability, and self-advocacy.
  • Encourage respectful communication and appropriate peer interactions.
  • Facilitate small-group discussions and character-development activities.
  • Assist in planning and implementing academic enrichment activities and evening programming.
  • Support leadership workshops, team-building exercises, and college readiness seminars.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain a 24-hour residential commitment during assigned weeks.
  • Reside in the assigned residence hall from Sunday at 3:00 PM through Thursday at 5:00 PM each week for the full six-week program.
  • Serve as a Resident Assistant (RA) to ensure student safety, supervision, and well-being.
  • Conduct room checks, enforce curfew, and monitor residence hall activity.
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with institutional policies.
  • Chaperone all program-related trips, college tours, and off-campus activities.
  • Maintain student supervision and accountability at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with travel and safety protocols.
  • Enforce the Upward Bound Student Code of Conduct.
  • Document and report behavioral incidents in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards.
  • Model integrity, responsibility, and professionalism.
  • ALWAYS be accountable for your actions and decisions.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in communication, attire, and conduct.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Devote full attention to assigned duties while on duty. Personal business or unrelated activities during working hours are strictly prohibited.
  • Duties adhere to TRIO Upward Bound federal guidelines and institutional policies.
  • The program reserves the right to modify responsibilities as necessary.
  • Compensation is subject to federal, state, and local tax withholdings.
  • Employment is at-will and may be terminated at any time if behavior is deemed inappropriate or if there is a violation of program policies or professional standards.
