Children’s Minnesota’s 10-week Student Nurse Intern (SNI) program gives nursing students the opportunity to develop their understanding of the nursing profession while working alongside a registered nurse. Under the direct supervision of a clinical nurse, interns work with a designated nurse preceptor to help bridge the gap between nursing school and practice. Participation requires enrollment in a nursing course in an approved program under the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act exemption language. This is a paid internship scheduled at 0.75–0.9 FTE. Interns may work in a clinical setting on day, evening, or night shifts, following their preceptor’s schedule. Shifts may be 8 or 12 hours, or a combination, and may include weekends and holidays. The position pays a flat rate of $22.79 per hour. Interns may work in neonatal care (NICU, ICC, or SCN); critical care (ED, CVICU, or PICU); acute medical/surgical care (Neuro, LSU, or Hem/Onc); peri-operative care (OR/PACU); inpatient mental health; or the ambulatory Hem/Onc Clinic.
