Summer Intern - Engineering - OpEx Distribution - Olathe, KS The primary responsibility is process improvement, utilizing lean techniques to standardize and simplify processes, ultimately delivering value in process improvement and operational excellence initiatives. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in a related discipline, preferably Engineering (Mechanical/Industrial/etc.), Supply Chain or related field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree student – Junior or Sophomore
  • Strong interest in process improvement and lean methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Dedicate majority of time (60%-80%) on the shop floor (Gemba) in assigned process path(s)
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify process improvement opportunities
  • Utilize lean techniques to standardize and simplify processes, ensuring efficient and effective operations
  • Learn/Utilize lean tools & techniques such as standardization, problem solving, people engagement, leadership soft-skills, one-piece flow, Kanban/pull systems, continuous improvement, value stream mapping, visual management, error proofing, 5S, training, etc.
  • Measure key performance indicators before and after implementation to evaluate the success of process improvements
  • Engage with team members to gain a comprehensive understanding of the process(es) involved and actively listen to their needs and feedback
  • Support the change management procedure by effectively communicating with stakeholders and addressing any concerns or challenges that arise
