About The Position

The Summer Intern - Claims will learn foundational concepts in reinsurance and the life cycle of a policy, from issuance through termination. The role has a strong focus on data analytics and reporting, including support for weekly and monthly metrics, data quality initiatives, and exposure to Microsoft Excel and SQL queries.

Under limited supervision, the intern collaborates with Claims and OSC to provide technical expertise and perform moderately complex analysis for reinsurance and retro claims. The intern works independently and with claim management and departments across the organization and US Operations to identify and resolve complex reinsurance claim issues. The role also collaborates with key resources on procedural process improvements and documentation.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Data Analytics, General Business, or a related field.
• Ability to summarize and develop reports from large data sets using Excel and SQL.
• Willingness and desire to learn, ask questions, participate in meetings, and voice new ideas.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Effective analytical and critical-thinking skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Must be authorized to work ongoing in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.

Nice To Haves

• Advanced Excel skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze moderately complex claim data for compliance with treaty terms and systemic reporting.
• Work with departments in the USMM Operations division and other RGA departments to identify needs and analyze possible solutions using technical experience and established procedures.
• Contribute to maintaining claims standards and procedures.
• Prepare reports that allow management to monitor claims production and quality results; this may include creating and running SQL queries.
• Participate in internal claim-related audits and other audits, including client claim audits, as needed.
• Under supervision, monitor system data for accurate claim accruals.
• Oversee substantial amounts of data meticulously while maintaining attention to detail.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Claim Examiners and OSC Processors to support the team.
• Complete assigned projects according to instructions.
• Support weekly and monthly metric reporting and data quality initiatives.
• Collaborate on procedural process improvements and documentation.
• Work with claim management and departments across the organization and US Operations to identify and resolve complex reinsurance claim issues.
