About The Position

First Citizens Bank offers a summer internship providing development opportunities and hands-on corporate work experience. The intern will join the Enterprise Architecture group, which shapes the Bank’s long-term technology strategy and innovation roadmap. The role provides exposure to enterprise architecture design, data integration, cloud strategy, artificial intelligence, and analytics. The group works across business and technology teams to support scalable, secure, and efficient systems for the Bank’s growth and digital transformation. The intern will research emerging technologies and support the analysis and design of technology solutions, data analytics, and visualization. The internship includes professional development, informational sessions, networking, and community service events, along with a dedicated manager and program manager. The intern will complete a project to improve a process or solve a problem, then present it at the end of the internship. Internship dates are May 24, 2027, through July 30, 2027.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED and 1 year of experience.
Currently enrolled at an accredited collegiate institution during the summer program.
Able to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the program.
Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Adaptability, written and verbal communication, and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to multitask, adjust priorities based on business needs, take direction, and absorb information quickly.

Currently enrolled as a third-year Bachelor’s student or in a Master’s program in Computer Science or a related STEM field, with coursework in software development, data science, or artificial intelligence.
Desire to apply technical skills to real-world enterprise problems and contribute to digital transformation initiatives.
Hands-on programming experience with Python, Java, or JavaScript, including the ability to develop and debug application code.
Familiarity with backend development concepts such as REST APIs, microservices, and database integrations.
Familiarity with frontend development frameworks such as React or Angular.
Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn, and data analytics tools such as SQL, Power BI, or Tableau.
Understanding of software development methodologies such as Agile and DevOps, and cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to evaluate complex technical systems and propose data-driven solutions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
Adaptable, self-motivated, eager to learn emerging technologies in application architecture, data integration, and AI-driven innovation.
Strong desire to learn and grow; positive attitude, natural curiosity, and enjoyment of collaboration.

Responsibilities

Research and evaluate emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning, and cloud platforms, to identify innovation opportunities.
Work with Enterprise Architects to support analysis and design of technology solutions, including data, application, and infrastructure architecture.
Contribute to data analytics and visualization initiatives that support architecture decisions and improve business insights.
Participate in project, research, analytics, strategy, process review and improvement, technology enhancement, and support activities as needed.
Attend professional development and informational sessions, networking events, and community service events.
Complete an assigned project designed to improve a specific process or solve a problem, and present the project at the close of the internship.
Prepare a wrap-up presentation for the division leader and other key company stakeholders describing internship accomplishments and experience.
