About The Position

Seward Community Health Center (SCHC) is seeking a seasonal/locum Medical professional (RN or LPN) for our clinic in Seward, Alaska. This is a temporary assignment expected to last 3-4 months, through September 2026. The role involves providing medical support in a clinic setting, with hours set to meet community needs, Monday through Friday, with potential for holiday work. The position offers no on-call hours, allowing ample free time to explore the natural beauty and recreational activities Seward and Alaska have to offer. SCHC is a federally qualified health center dedicated to providing quality, affordable, integrated, patient-centered primary care for the entire family. This role is crucial in supporting our mobile clinic and enhancing healthcare access for the community.

Requirements

  • Relevant Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree
  • Professional and current Alaska license at time of offer
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and circumstances with “grace under pressure”.
  • Ability to learn and navigate new software with ease, or previous experience with Epic.
  • Ability to provide excellent communication with patients and staff.
  • Comfortable treating diverse patients with acute conditions.
  • Willingness to work with patients of all ages (newborn to 103).

Nice To Haves

  • Two years minimum working experience in a primary care or urgent care setting.
  • Experience in a rural, community health center and/or underserved clinical environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide urgent/walk-in care, including rooming, pre-screening, and meeting with patients.
  • Assist in assessing, diagnosing and treating acute illnesses.
  • Assist in helping patients manage the symptoms of chronic health problems on their travels.
  • Carry out basic primary medical care procedures as appropriate.
  • Follow the treatment plan and assist with appropriate follow-up.
  • Refer to specialists as needed, or effectively transfer referral to Clinic.
  • Educate patients about the diagnosis, treatment plan, and preventive policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Participate in community outreach and education efforts as requested.
  • Communicate pertinent patient information to other members of the care team as needed, including referring them to the Clinic or Urgent Care if further needs are established.
  • Obtain informed consent for all procedures.
  • Document patient visit appropriately in electronic health record (EHR) - Epic Ambulatory.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA requirements.
  • Maintain the order, cleanliness, and stock of the mobile clinic as part of the team.
  • Perform other related duties including working at the Main Health Clinic, as assigned.
