About The Position

NORY is seeking a passionate Site Director for its summer camp in NYC. The role involves leading a campsite to success by inspiring and supporting educators, showing care to campers, providing excellent customer support to parents, and guiding staff development. This position is designed to enhance leadership abilities and prepare individuals for high-level educational leadership roles. It also offers training in diverse STEM topics, even for those without prior STEM experience, with comprehensive training that can be applied to future educational careers. The role provides opportunities to build lasting professional relationships within a community of over 400 educators and offers a pathway to year-round employment opportunities.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing and coaching a team of 4+ teachers while fostering a positive, collaborative team environment.
  • A proven track record of building strong, professional relationships with families in a camp or educational setting.
  • 5+ years of experience teaching children ages 3–12 in any subject or discipline.
  • A distinct willingness to learn, adapt, and quickly adopt new technologies and operational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and Train Counselors: Mentor and develop teaching staff, ensuring they understand activity purposes and implement protocols for a fun, safe camp environment.
  • Nurture Campers and Families: Build strong, supportive relationships with campers and their families to enhance the overall camp experience.
  • Operations Management: Efficiently oversee and manage all physical aspects of camp operations, including materials, facilities, and daily schedules.
  • Administrative Oversight: Maintain accurate, up-to-date administrative records for all aspects of the camp to ensure smooth daily operations and compliance.
  • Step-In Teaching: Enthusiastically lead camp activities or classes to maintain a high-quality experience for campers when coverage is needed.
