About The Position

This part-time summer opportunity is designed for educators and program leaders to gain leadership experience, build a team, and shape the summer experience for over 60 children and their families. NORY is a leading STEM camp provider in NYC and Boston, known for its immersive and joyful STEM education for children aged 3-12. The role offers genuine leadership development, STEM training, a supportive community, and potential for year-round opportunities. The position focuses on morning operations only, allowing afternoons for other pursuits.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working with children ages 3–12.
  • Experience in teaching, camp leadership, or similar roles required.
  • Proven team leadership: managed or mentored at least four people and demonstrated support for their development.
  • Strong family engagement skills: confidently and compassionately handle routine and challenging parent conversations.
  • Operational steadiness: remain organized and composed when unexpected situations arise.
  • Growth mindset: receptive to feedback, eager to learn new tools, and committed to personal development.
  • Effectiveness with children, professionalism with adults, and reliability under pressure are essential.

  • STEM background is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 6–12 counselors during morning programming, providing daily coaching, facilitating huddles, offering feedback, and supporting their growth.
  • Serve as the primary contact for families at drop-off, welcoming parents, addressing concerns, and communicating weekly about their child's experience.
  • Oversee morning site operations, including managing the schedule, materials, facilities, safety protocols, attendance, and incident reporting.
  • Step in to teach as needed, filling in for counselors or leading a morning class to ensure a consistent, high-quality camper experience.
  • Provide a brief written and verbal handover at 1:00 PM to the afternoon lead for a smooth transition.
