About The Position

Ashurst Perkins Coie is accepting applications from first-year law students for its 2028 2L summer associate program in the New York office. Summer associates are hired into a specific practice area; this position is recruiting for Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources. Applicants are encouraged to identify the practice area that best matches their academic or professional background, skills, and interests, and explain that connection in their application. Transfers to other practice areas are uncommon, as the program is designed to build a foundation in the selected area and lasting connections within the practice. Summer associates receive substantive work, including research, drafting, analysis, and client-facing projects, working alongside attorneys and mentors. They regularly attend hearings, client meetings, depositions, and deal closings, and may work on pro bono matters. The program also includes professional development activities and social events. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis beginning November 2, 2026. Applicants should submit a resume, a cover letter stating practice-area interest and geographic preference, undergraduate and graduate transcripts if applicable, a law school transcript (unofficial versions accepted, with a transcript to be provided as soon as available if not submitted initially), and a legal writing sample of no more than 10 pages. All materials must be uploaded in PDF format. Applications are evaluated based on academic achievement, writing and interpersonal skills, experience relevant to a legal career, and life experiences that have shaped applicants’ perspectives and professional goals. The position is not benefits-eligible, although paid holidays are available. Compensation is $18,750 per month.
