About The Position

Cordell & Cordell is seeking highly motivated second-year law students with a genuine interest in pursuing a career in family law for its Summer Associate Program. The paid internship is designed to mirror the experience of a first-year associate, offering practical legal work, direct mentorship, and professional development while participants work with experienced attorneys and firm leaders. The program is available in multiple U.S. offices, including Sacramento, California. Interns must be able to relocate or reside in their assigned office location for the duration of the program; long-term locations after graduation may differ from the summer office. Many participants are offered part-time law clerk positions during their third year of law school and full-time positions upon graduation. The hourly pay rate is $35. This role is not eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases and bonuses, or for the firm’s full-time benefits package.

Requirements

Be a current second-year law student (2028 graduate) in good standing at an accredited law school.
Demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in family law.
Have a law school GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Be able to relocate or reside in the assigned office location for the duration of the program.
Be flexible regarding destination locations upon graduation from law school.
Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attach a cover letter, resume, and most current law school transcript to the application.

Responsibilities

Draft and analyze legal documents in active family law matters.
Conduct legal research and assist with preparing trial materials.
Attend court proceedings with experienced attorneys.
Participate in client meetings and gain insight into case strategy.
Work closely with a Litigation Partner to develop a foundational understanding of family law practice.
Engage in firm-sponsored networking and social events.
Perform other tasks as needed to help run the business effectively.
