About The Position

SUNY Sullivan's Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) seeks a skilled and student-centered professional to serve as a Math Instructor for the 2026 EOP Summer Academy. This position involves teaching EOM 0999: Math Lab, a non-credit-bearing developmental mathematics course designed to strengthen students' quantitative reasoning, algebraic foundations, statistical literacy, technology skills, and college readiness prior to their first semester. Students will engage with key mathematical concepts including arithmetic, basic algebra, business mathematics, probability, frequency distributions, graphing, and measures of central tendency. The instructor will utilize technology-based learning platforms such as ALEKS, Lumen, and/or MyOpenMath, while incorporating Excel and Google Sheets to help students develop the skills necessary for success in college-level mathematics courses. Students will complete pre- and post-assessments through ALEKS that may support placement into gateway mathematics coursework without a developmental component. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to student success, educational access, and fostering a culture of belonging.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related quantitative field required
  • Prior teaching experience in mathematics, statistics, developmental education, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation college students and students from historically underserved backgrounds
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to create an engaging, supportive, and inclusive learning environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with educational technology, learning management systems, and online learning platforms such as ALEKS, Lumen, MyOpenMath, or Brightspace preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teach two sections of EOM 0999: Math Lab during the EOP Summer Academy (July 15 – August 5)
  • Develop and deliver lessons focused on arithmetic, introductory algebra, business mathematics, and foundational statistics concepts
  • Introduce students to probability, frequency distributions, graphing techniques, and measures of central tendency
  • Integrate Excel and Google Sheets into instruction to support data analysis, graphing, and quantitative problem-solving
  • Utilize ALEKS, Lumen, MyOpenMath, and other instructional technologies to provide individualized learning opportunities and skill development
  • Create and administer quizzes, assignments, and other assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports student growth and mathematical development
  • Educate students on effective study strategies, problem-solving techniques, and the use of academic support resources
  • Collaborate with the EOP Director to establish expectations regarding AI use within the Summer Academy
  • Conduct pre- and post-math assessments and assist with evaluating student readiness for college-level mathematics coursework
  • Maintain accurate attendance, participation, assessment, and grading records
  • Communicate professionally and regularly with EOP staff regarding student progress and concerns
  • Participate in Summer Academy planning meetings, trainings, and program activities as requested
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student confidence, resilience, and academic success
