About The Position

Ozark Opportunities, Inc. is seeking a motivated professional passionate about early education to serve as a Substitute in Jasper. The role assists the Early Head Start Teacher in implementing learning experiences that advance children’s intellectual and physical development and promotes the involvement of families of children in the assigned program and center.

Substitute hours vary according to center needs, and there is no set schedule. The program provides a minimum of 8 hours per week and is capped at two program participants per center. A full 8-hour workday pays $100 before taxes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a teaching environment or with low-income families.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer operation and software.
• Active, unhindered driver’s license.
• Personal reliable transportation.
• Successfully pass criminal background checks, including FBI fingerprint and Child Maltreatment checks.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, and move around classroom furniture and materials.
• Ability to occasionally drive to trainings.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Teacher in carrying out the daily lesson plan and appropriate center activities.
• Maintain a safe, healthy learning environment and provide children with a sense of security away from home.
• Work closely with the Teacher to ensure developmental tasks are completed in accordance with ECLKC and OHS requirements.
• Work closely with Nutrition Specialties to ensure healthy practices.
• Assist with recruiting volunteers and future clients for service.
• Report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect as a mandated reporter.
