About The Position

This is an assigned substitute position in an on-going temporary capacity, serving as a substitute teacher, instructional assistant, or support staff for an established period. The role involves carrying out the daily plans and responsibilities of the absent employee, managing daily tasks, and potentially filling in for one or more days in the same position. The substitute will perform the most critical and necessary functions as outlined in the absent employee's job description.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Meets all mandated health requirements (i.e. a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
  • Documentation of clear criminal work record.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to assume all the duties and responsibilities of the regular teacher.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors/Masters Degree from accredited institution or minimum of 60+ credit hours.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the teacher’s written lesson plans.
  • Consult with the principal and/or administrative staff to resolve questions, concerns, or before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified by the absent teacher.
  • Comply with all building procedures and schedules.
  • Promote the proper use and care of school property.
  • Teacher scheduled classes.
  • Prepare a written summary of work completed.
  • Communicate special situations or problems encountered with the absent teacher.
  • Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Promote a favorable image of the school division.
  • Implement effective pupil management procedures.
  • Maintain high standards and uphold the student conduct code.
  • Develop and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Stimulate student interest.
  • Vary instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
  • Provide guidance, communicate high expectations, and show an active interest in student progress.
  • Facilitate critical-thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
  • Work cooperatively with school staff.
  • Incorporate the effective use of technology in records management and instructional activities.
  • Uphold computer technology acceptable use policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit reports on time.
  • Respect personal privacy and maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division’s policies and practices.
