Elementary Permanent PD Substitute for 2026-2027
About The Position
Union Elementary School is seeking a Permanent Professional Development (PD) Substitute for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in obtaining a teaching certification or those looking to support their local district. The position offers direct experience working in the classroom as a teacher or paraprofessional. This role will support Grades K-4 at Union Elementary School and other elementary schools within the district. Permanent PD Substitutes are guaranteed an assignment every day that school is in session. Assignments will be made based on the location of Teacher Professional Development, meaning you will substitute for teachers in those classrooms. PD assignments are communicated in advance, so you will know when to report to a different elementary school. This position may terminate at the end of the 2026-2027 school year.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting is a plus.
- Ability to manage a classroom and adapt to a variety of teaching situations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Patience, flexibility, and the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of basic educational principles and practices.
- Must be fingerprinted within 30 days of hire.
Nice To Haves
- Candidates with State of CT Teacher Certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher to ensure continuity of instruction.
- Manage the classroom by maintaining student behavior and enforcing school rules and policies.
- Deliver instructional material in a clear, engaging, and effective manner.
- Provide supervision for students during lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times as needed.
- Address and support the individual needs of students, providing additional guidance or assistance when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents when necessary.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
- Report any issues or concerns to the regular teacher or principal.
