About The Position
Noah Wallace Elementary School is seeking a Permanent Professional Development (PD) Substitute for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in obtaining a teaching certification or supporting their local district. The position offers direct experience working in a classroom as a teacher or paraprofessional. This role will support students in Grades K-4 at Noah Wallace Elementary School and other elementary schools within the district. Permanent PD Substitutes are guaranteed an assignment every day school is in session, with assignments made based on teacher professional development locations, allowing for advance notice of location changes. The position may terminate at the end of the 2026-2027 school year.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Ability to manage a classroom and adapt to a variety of teaching situations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Patience, flexibility, and the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of basic educational principles and practices.
- Must be fingerprinted within 30 days of hire.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting is a plus.
- Candidates with State of CT Teacher Certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction and classroom management for students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
- Ensure a productive learning environment.
- Follow lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher to ensure continuity of instruction.
- Manage the classroom by maintaining student behavior and enforcing school rules and policies.
- Deliver instructional material in a clear, engaging, and effective manner.
- Provide supervision for students during lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times as needed.
- Address and support the individual needs of students, providing additional guidance or assistance when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents when necessary.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
- Report any issues or concerns to the regular teacher or principal.
