About The Position
FirstLine Schools is seeking substitute teachers for its (Pre)K–8 schools in New Orleans. Substitute teachers undertake applicable teacher responsibilities and support students’ academic achievement, classroom learning, and development. FirstLine Schools focuses on teaching excellence through coaching and professional development guided by its Vision of Excellence in Teaching rubric, which emphasizes maximizing instructional time, planning effectively, maintaining high academic expectations, checking for understanding, responding to misunderstandings, and establishing a productive learning community.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong background in and command of the content area.

Responsibilities
- Design lessons that lead to standards mastery and align with grade-level expectations and end-of-year assessments, as applicable.
- Provide feedback to students through pertinent, scaffolded follow-up questions that affirm correctly understood content, clarify misunderstandings, or extend students’ thinking.
- Establish effective classroom routines and manage students without disruptions, redirecting inappropriate behavior.
- Inspire and invest students in achieving their goals and understanding that achievement comes through effort rather than innate ability.
- Prepare students to solve complex problems with no obvious answer.
- Seek out and constructively respond to feedback, and engage in problem-solving with others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
