About The Position

Under the direction of the school principal, the Substitute Teacher supports the Diocese of St. Augustine’s mission to educate, evangelize, and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment. The role involves teaching and supporting academic and religious curricula, maintaining a positive and well-managed classroom, and contributing to the school’s faith community. The teacher must act and instruct consistently with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and adhere to diocesan and school policies.

Requirements

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Maintain Professional Educator certification in the State of Florida.
Have or be able to obtain Basic Diocesan Ministry Certification within two years.
Respect, promote, and accommodate the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith, without conflict in speech, conduct, or instruction.
Maintain a valid driver’s license.
Complete a background check and Protecting God’s Children (PGC) class.
Be proficient in computer technology, including school-related software.
Be able to assess needs and strategies flexibly and adapt appropriately.
Consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful, and caring attitude toward colleagues, the public, and those served.
Be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, for school-related events.
Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; and present information and respond to questions effectively.
Perform basic arithmetic and compute rates, ratios, and percentages; draw and interpret bar graphs.
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret technical instructions, and work with abstract and concrete variables.
Meet the position’s physical demands, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

Nice To Haves

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and a registered member of a Catholic parish faith community is preferred; this may be required for some teaching positions, as determined by the school principal.

Responsibilities

Recognize and support the school’s Catholic mission by speaking, acting, and instructing consistently with Roman Catholic Church teachings.
Collaborate with the principal to build the faith community and demonstrate lived Gospel values through personal example and participation in a faith community.
Maintain physical and informational security and respect confidentiality and privacy.
Work collaboratively in a positive, friendly, and professional manner.
Adhere to diocesan and school policies and regulations while supporting the school’s spiritual, pastoral, and educational mission.
Prepare lesson plans to implement and achieve school-adopted academic goals and objectives.
Integrate the Catholic religious curriculum as articulated by the school.
Participate in and help plan school religious and service-related activities.
Communicate knowledge and competency in academic and religious curricula; organize learning materials to use time effectively and engage and motivate students.
Establish consistent classroom management that promotes self-direction and a positive self-image; set high behavior standards and manage inappropriate behavior according to school policy.
Participate in continuous professional development as a lifelong learner.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
