About The Position
A Substitute assists in the day-to-day operation of a Head Start center in various capacities, including classroom, food service, or family service assistance. The role supports children, families, and center operations while complying with applicable Head Start, agency, licensing, and accreditation standards.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Previous work with children ages 0–5.
Nice To Haves
- CDA credential preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning daily lessons and activities, and assume major classroom responsibilities as requested and as expertise is gained.
- Keep parents informed through conferences, letters, newsletters, anecdotal notes, and telephone calls.
- Assist with meal preparation and cleanup, and eat meals with the children.
- Assist with cleaning duties in the classroom and center as requested or required.
- Provide food service assistance when the Food Service Technician is absent.
- Assist with parent meetings or trainings.
- Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.
- Attend and participate in assigned meetings, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training, and conferences, including local, state, regional, and national groups, as well as pre-service and in-service training.
- Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency and submit necessary documents to the Finance Department.
- Comply with Head Start Performance Standards, agency and Head Start policies and procedures, and applicable early childhood standards, including DHS Licensing Standards and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
