About The Position

Anticipated openings for the 2026-2027 School Year. The Maryland School for the Deaf provides an inclusive, language-rich environment for deaf and hard of hearing students from birth through age 21. Rooted in a bilingual education approach, we ensure full access to American Sign Language and English across comprehensive academic, extracurricular, and student life programs. In partnership with families and communities, we empower students to think critically and develop a sense of self and belonging. We are currently accepting applications to create a pool of qualified individuals who can work on an as needed basis to temporarily continue the lessons planned for the children on any given day.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, plus 60 college credits, or a verified former Howard County teacher
  • Fluency in American Sign Language and written English required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience working with a diverse student population including underserved students
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Knowledge of the Deaf Community preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follow the lesson plan left by the teacher and ensure students complete all assigned tasks
  • Maintain a safe environment
  • Keep students under direct supervision at all times
  • Leave information concerning the day's activities for the teacher
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of students and school personnel information
