About The Position

Anticipated openings for the 2026-2027 School Year. The Maryland School for the Deaf provides an inclusive, language-rich environment for deaf and hard of hearing students from birth through age 21. Rooted in a bilingual education approach, we ensure full access to American Sign Language and English across comprehensive academic, extracurricular, and student life programs. In partnership with families and communities, we empower students to think critically and develop a sense of self and belonging. We are currently accepting applications to create a pool of qualified individuals who can work on an as needed basis to temporarily provide classroom support on any given day.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Fluency in ASL and written English required.
• Knowledge of students with additional disabilities required.
• Ability to teach students on different levels and with varying educational backgrounds required.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implementation of student instructional programs and daily schedules as directed by the teacher.
• Compliance with and support of MSD's regulations and policies.
• Availability on an on-call basis.
• Accommodation and adherence to each behavior support plan for individual students, including daily self-care.
• Assisting with the arrival and dismissal of students.
• Supervising students during off-campus instruction.
• Providing a safe environment for students at all times.
• Maintaining strict confidentiality of students and school personnel information.
• Exceptional organizational skills.
• Effective classroom management.
• Strong written communication.
• Experience working with a diverse student population, including underserved students.
