About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers in Elsa and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers can set their own schedule and work up to five days per week in K–12 schools. They serve as positive role models, support students’ learning, and help create an encouraging classroom environment. Assignments may also include lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. The role offers up to $145 per day, paid weekly via W-2. Kokua provides daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers a potential path to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 college credit hours completed.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and proctoring duties.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Believe that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

• A bachelor’s, master’s, or professional degree, which qualifies for the higher stated daily pay rate.

Responsibilities
