About The Position

This is a Long Term Permanent Substitute School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor position for Middle School, covering a leave of absence for the 2026/2027 school year. The role reports to the Director of Mental Health & School Principal/Administration. The primary goal is to provide direct clinical services and care coordination to MSMS students, ensuring equitable access to behavioral and mental health services within the educational setting. The position involves collaboration with school-based and district-based staff to implement a comprehensive school-based mental health system.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling
  • Appropriate DESE license
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Nice To Haves

  • Holding a license of a LCSW, LICSW, or LMHC is preferred.
  • At least three years of professional experience in working with families, children, and community agencies is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Use evidence-based mental health practices and data to guide student growth and achievement using proactive and solution-focused approaches.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, state and federal laws, and Burlington Public School policies.
  • Work with students of diverse backgrounds with diverse needs in an equitable and inclusive manner.
  • Maintain appropriate confidential records.
  • React professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations (e.g., environmental changes, behavior/aggression, mental health crisis, etc.).
  • Provide strong collaborative, counseling, advising, teaching, coaching, and leadership skills to support student programming and work in a team setting.
  • Utilize strong organizational skills to balance the responsibilities of a high demand position.
  • Plan and implement services and supports within multi-tiered systems of support based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students.

Benefits

  • $125 per day until the Counselor you are covering comes off the payroll. When the Counselor comes off the payroll you will be placed on degree and step in accordance with the Burlington Educators' Association Unit A contract.
