About The Position

The Substitute School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and on field trips, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations. This on-call position requires maintaining discipline on the bus, keeping the assigned bus clean, and reporting any mechanical issues or delays. The driver will exercise leadership on out-of-district trips and ensure only authorized students are transported. The role also involves reporting accidents, enforcing regulations, and demonstrating professionalism, organization, and a positive attitude towards students, staff, and the community. Confidentiality and adherence to all applicable laws and policies are essential.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Have and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Have or obtain a valid CDL.

Responsibilities

  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Maintain discipline when students are on the bus.
  • Report undisciplined students to the proper authority.
  • Keep assigned bus clean.
  • Keep to an assigned schedule.
  • Check the bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
  • Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  • Discharge students only at authorized stops.
  • Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district trips.
  • Transport only authorized students.
  • Report all accidents and complete required reports.
  • Enforce regulations against smoking on the bus.
  • Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.
  • Greet all students, faculty, staff, and visitors courteously.
  • Maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.
  • Dress appropriately for the position and work required.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students, and job and communicate the same to the community.
  • Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility.
  • Maintain confidentiality in the school operation.
  • Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.
