About The Position
Under the general supervision of the Food Services Production Supervisor, the Substitute Food Service Assistant performs routine tasks related to food preparation, dispensing, storage, and packaging, as well as maintaining kitchen cleanliness. The position assists with verifying and loading or unloading vendor deliveries, preparing food for assembly-line packaging, and serving food during school lunch, breakfast, and nutritional periods. The assistant maintains serving equipment and work areas in a clean and sanitary condition, provides clerical support for federal, state, and local reporting, and performs other duties directly related to the position.
Requirements
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
- Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to one year of food preparation, distribution, and serving.
- Attach a valid Food Handler's Certification; applicants without it will be screened out.
- If selected, employment is contingent upon Board approval, Department of Justice/FBI clearance, a negative tuberculosis test, Child Abuse/Mandated Reporting Training (AB 1432), Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (SB 1343), legal documentation verifying identity, and any license or certification required by the job description.

- Food and Nutrition service experience within a school is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist in verifying food deliveries from vendors to campus.
- Load and unload food transport vehicles from vendors.
- Store food and assist with the proper rotation and storage of food and supplies.
- Set up food stations as needed.
- Assist in preparing main dishes and baked goods as needed.
- Assist with packaging prepared foods.
- Inventory items remaining after serving periods.
- Assist with point-of-sale computer systems.
- Apportion or wrap foods into plastic or foil trays.
- Clean and prepare a variety of foods for serving.
- Clean refrigerators, freezers, ovens, counters, and carts.
- Maintain machines, conveyor belts, kitchen equipment, and floors around the packaging area in a sanitary, safe, and orderly manner.
- Operate standard kitchen equipment.
- Assist with preparing and compiling school records, reports, correspondence, bulletins, and notices on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Supervise students in the campus lunch area as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
