About The Position

Apollo After School seeks outgoing, personable, reliable, dedicated, and caring substitute educators for school-based after-school care and enrichment programs in Monterey Park, California. Educators provide a high-quality learning environment and help extend the school day for elementary-age students. A degree in education is valued, but applicants with relevant experience or a related degree may be considered. This is a seasonal, on-call position following the school district calendar for the 2026–2027 school year, with hours based on business needs. Compensation is $21 per hour.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have at least one year of experience working with school-age youth ages 4–10 in a school or after-school setting.
Be able to command respect and cooperation in an elementary classroom.
Be confident running a classroom alone.
Be a team player who can collaborate with peers.
Be able to assess and solve problems associated with elementary-aged children.
Be able to create and maintain a fun, caring, and responsive educational environment.
Be flexible, responsible, patient, and genuinely interested in working with children.

Nice To Haves

A degree in education is highly valued.
Relevant experience or a related degree may be considered.

Responsibilities

Provide a high-quality learning environment and manage activities that extend the school day.
Assist with implementing classroom curriculum and weekly lesson plans as needed.
Ensure the safety and security of enrolled children.
Follow the designated schedule and curriculum and maintain a routine for students.
Attract and retain students through enthusiasm, teaching skills, and patience.
Assist students with homework completion.
