About The Position

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement from Sargent & Lundy’s future Knoxville office, with an expectation of three days in the office and two days working remotely. The designer works in a project team alongside engineers and other designers on high-voltage substation design, preparing wiring and related design deliverables based on input from substation design and protection and control engineers. The role also includes providing technical guidance and mentoring to new designers, incorporating vendor information into design deliverables, and conducting walkdowns at client substation facilities.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in detailed wiring design.
• An associate degree in drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• Advanced knowledge of computer drafting tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer assistance.
• Ability to multitask across projects.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with wiring diagrams for high-voltage substations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare single-line relaying and metering diagrams.
• Prepare AC and DC schematic diagrams.
• Prepare equipment interconnection wiring diagrams.
• Prepare cable schedules.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to new designers.
