The Sub System Functional Designer works within the mechatronics systems engineering team, a technical domain undergoing change driven by electrification, connectivity, increasing regulatory constraints, new customer expectations, and quality-cost challenges. The position is hierarchically attached to the head of the MSCE (Mechatronic Sub-systems Core Engineering) team, which is responsible for Cabin, Visibility, and Carbody Access subsystems, including exterior lighting, wiping, washing, interior lighting, seat postural comfort, restraint means, and power closure systems. Functionally, the designer is attached to one of the domain’s Sub-System Architects. Working with subsystem architects, geometry, electronics, component designers, safety engineers, and stakeholders such as services, quality, and project teams, the designer supports the design of the assigned part of a subsystem according to the partitioning defined by the subsystem architect. The role develops functional and dysfunctional subsystem designs using block, sequence, and activity diagrams, seeking an effective compromise informed by component-layer feedback, including diversity and complexity considerations, and design-group work. The designer negotiates, breaks down, and defines functional requirements; participates in functional and dysfunctional design arbitration using the QCTP method; specifies control of the assigned functional scope; and develops algorithms in text or model form. The role ensures the availability and quality of deliverables. Autonomy is expected to vary according to experience and status. The main deliverable is subsystem functional specifications, produced quarterly.
