About The Position

The Technical Manager will lead a team in Platform Computing Systems (PCS) engineering organization, supporting the business and Application Engineering teams in defining a strategy for growth, driving initiatives to continuously improve performance and processes, executing successfully on projects to bring value for the company and our customers, and achieving key functional, business, and broad company objectives. This is a People Leader role for a team of roughly 8-10 interdisciplinary engineers, comprised of Engineering Project Managers (EPMs), Systems Engineers and/or Software Engineers that will require a talented individual to use their experience, knowledge, influence, and initiative to set strategy, manage team competency development, and drive engineering execution excellence. The position spans PCS products and projects and includes interfacing with numerous outside organizations. The role will report directly to the PCS Engineering Leader with moderate autonomy and require high levels of operational judgment. This opportunity is bonus eligible with a work location of Grand Rapids, MI or Clearwater, FL. An extensive corporate relocation package is also available for eligible candidates. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Aerospace, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of systems engineering, controls engineering, embedded software, or technical/project leadership experience in a highly technical engineering environment, preferably in avionics, embedded systems, or safety-critical aerospace applications.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting development of complex avionics, embedded control systems, or integrated hardware/software systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working in programs governed by aerospace development and certification processes, including DO-178C; experience with DAL A programs strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in environments requiring strong coordination among systems, software, verification, certification, and program management.
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship status.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a systems engineering team to deliver engineering excellence across bids and proposals, program execution, product development, integration, verification, certification, and customer support.
  • Drive execution of safety-critical avionics and controls programs, including programs requiring compliance with DO-178C, with particular emphasis on the rigor, planning, traceability, verification discipline, and cross-functional coordination expected in DAL A environments.
  • Provide leadership for development and execution strategies covering requirements definition, system architecture, integration, verification, validation, certification support, and lifecycle planning for complex embedded and avionics systems.
  • Build and develop an inclusive, highly capable, and high-performing team through workforce planning, recruiting, coaching, technical mentoring, and competency development.
  • Manage the department sub-section to achieve functional, business, and company objectives, including engineering planning, staffing, budgeting, culture development, process discipline, and execution excellence.
  • Create and execute structured development plans tailored to individual team members, while fostering a culture where leaders and team members actively support the growth of others.
  • Set clear expectations for team and individual performance; monitor performance using defined metrics and drive improvement through a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, technical rigor, lean principles, and clear communication across the organization.
  • Ensure engineering execution is compliant with internal engineering processes, customer contractual requirements, and applicable aerospace development and certification standards.
  • Allocate qualified engineering resources and manage outsource activities to meet project needs across programs.
  • Support reporting and escalation rhythms with clear communication, strong understanding of program status, active issue ownership, and disciplined risk and opportunity management.
  • Provide technical and organizational leadership for both new business pursuits and execution of existing business, including NPI, R&D, and production support activities.
  • Drive effective startup of new programs by establishing robust plans, standard work, reporting expectations, roles and responsibilities, and One Team collaboration across functions.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into practical execution plans and product solutions, leveraging reuse where appropriate while maintaining compliance and product integrity.
  • Demonstrate strong project leadership by establishing teams, conducting planning, managing execution, and actively mitigating technical, program, and certification risks.
  • Hold teams accountable for delivering measurable results against Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) objectives.
  • Assist project and program leadership in resolving engineering issues related to design, validation, integration, verification, safety, certification, closure, and field support.
  • Develop influential working relationships with customers and stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Help define engineering strategies, plans, and execution approaches that differentiate GE Aerospace in the market and strengthen the organization for the future.
  • Maintain high visibility as a key engineering leader in the Avionics business and be recognized for professionalism, technical depth, sound judgment, integrity, and commitment to excellence.
