About The Position

The City of Gilroy is looking for a mature, responsible, and motivated student to join the Human Resources/Risk Management Department as a Part-Time Clerical Student Worker. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build professional skills, and get an inside look at how local government works – all while earning an hourly wage. The selected student will assist with a variety of clerical, administrative, and special project assignments that support the team. This is a part-time, at-will, unrepresented hourly position. Applicants must be available for at least four afternoons per week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Requirements

  • Student applicants should be a current college student or at minimum a high school junior or higher
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in basic computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Maturity for an office work environment required.
  • A minimum one-year commitment to the role is needed.
  • Applicants should apply only if they can commit to working through the school year during the afternoon hours noted for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • A two-year commitment is considered ideal due to the substantial training associated with the position.

Responsibilities

  • Support recruitment activities by copying and preparing job flyers, applications, recruitment materials, and other documents.
  • Prepare orientation materials by copying, assembling, and organizing digital employee handbooks and information packets.
  • Assist with interviews by assembling and disassembling interview binders, packets, and related materials.
  • Answer and direct telephone calls to the Human Resources/Risk Management Division, provide general information, and refer callers to the appropriate staff member.
  • Maintain and organize files by filing documents accurately and efficiently and assisting with the creation and organization of new files.
  • Create and organize meeting materials and information packets as directed by staff.
  • Prepare employee training certificates to document completed training.
  • Support Human Resources/Risk Management staff with a variety of clerical assignments, special projects, and administrative tasks.
  • Set up and break down conference rooms before and after interviews, meetings, and other activities.
