About The Position

This is a student worker position within the College of Letters, Arts & Social Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University, located on the Richmond Campus. The role involves serving as a peer mentor, recruiting students for the AFA minor, planning and facilitating student and faculty discussions, organizing and promoting AFA/CAE-related events, and managing social media content related to the black experience. The position also includes designing promotional materials, facilitating film series, assisting with club events, and organizing career workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a peer mentor
  • Recruit students for the AFA minor by attending spotlight events
  • Help plan a monthly student and faculty discussion series at the Center and identify panelists
  • Organize and promote AFA/CAE-related events and activities on campus and social media
  • Identify and post educational articles on the black experience on AFA/CAE social media platforms
  • Design and circulate fliers for AFA/CAE-related events and activities
  • Facilitate the AFA monthly spotlight series for faculty, staff, and students
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration with other departments on campus
  • Facilitate “Africana Night Flix” monthly film series
  • Help plan events organized by the AFA Club, the African Student Organization, and the Black Student Union
  • Organize biannual career workshops led by AFA alums
