About The Position

Insight Magazine is a student-run feature magazine at the University of Nevada, Reno, producing content for students by students. The magazine aims to be informative, conversational, and relatable, publishing both textual and visual work that is honest and thought-provoking. Contributing to Insight offers students a unique platform to share their ideas through physical print to the student body and the wider Northern Nevada community. The magazine explores various aspects of journalism, including writing, photography, graphic design, and public relations, providing students with practical experience in the publication industry. The Photographer's primary role is to capture and edit images for Insight's print magazine and website, ensuring they are optimized for both web and print. This role involves close collaboration with the Photo Editor, Executive Editor, and Art Director to maintain Insight's aesthetic standards and requires strict adherence to deadlines. Regular attendance at weekly team meetings is expected for effective communication. Please note that Insight Magazine does not provide equipment, so candidates are strongly encouraged to have their own camera.

Requirements

• Understanding of Google Drive
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Bridge and Lightroom
• Creativity towards photos and magazine layouts
• Organized, communicative, and collaborative
• Ability to work nights and weekends
• Commitment to the ethical and moral leadership development of students
• Strong time-management skills

Responsibilities

• Create photographic content for Insight’s print magazine and website
• Edit photos in collaboration with the other Photo Editor and Art Director
• Adhere to strict deadlines
• Attend weekly staff meetings
• Distribute Insight Magazines
