The Department of Energy’s Power Up Program offers early-career professionals an internship with hands-on work experience, direct mentorship, and professional networking opportunities in the federal government. This internship is in the Office of Energy Dominance Financing (EDF), which supports energy and manufacturing initiatives advancing U.S. energy security, affordability, grid reliability, and national competitiveness. EDF works with private-sector partners, federal agencies, and other stakeholders to finance projects that strengthen the U.S. energy foundation and support emerging technologies. Interns may contribute to research, analysis, and program support across EDF’s focus areas, gaining exposure to federal energy finance, public-private partnerships, and cross-agency collaboration. They may engage with large-scale loan evaluations for innovative energy projects and develop expertise in financial modeling, due diligence, and credit risk analysis. Interns are paired with an on-the-job mentor who provides career-tailored guidance, supports professional skill development, and helps them navigate a mission-driven federal workplace. The appointment is temporary and time-limited, lasting from a minimum of 60 days up to a maximum of four years. It is designed for temporary development, does not lead to a permanent position, and does not confer competitive civil service status. The appointment may be extended depending on organizational needs and funding. Salary depends on duty location. Telework availability is based on mission requirements and supervisory determination.
