About The Position

The Student Success Center Peer Tutor provides individualized peer tutoring to Blue Ridge Community College students in a designated subject area. The Peer Tutor works collaboratively with Student Success Center staff to support student learning and success by providing high-quality, supportive tutoring services. Tutoring responsibilities will be specific to the assigned content area and may include helping students understand course material, develop effective study strategies, and build confidence in their academic abilities.

Requirements

Must be referred by a Blue Ridge faculty member (faculty member should be listed on references)
Must be currently enrolled at Blue Ridge Community College
Must have previously taken or be currently enrolled in the course to be tutored
Must have earned, or be earning, an A or B in the course
Must be in good academic standing and adhere to the student code of conduct
Demonstrates willingness to work with any Blue Ridge student seeking academic assistance

Responsibilities

Work effectively as part of an instructional team.
Relate effectively to students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions.
Be willing to work with any Blue Ridge Community College student.
Explain and discuss course material clearly and effectively.
Serve as a positive role model at all times.
Demonstrate reliability by being punctual for all appointments and promptly responding to scheduling requests.
Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
Share effective study techniques and encourage students to develop time management skills.
Discourage negative or unproductive talk about themselves, courses, or instructors.
Follow established tutoring routines and procedures.
Work independently while maintaining professional standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
