About The Position

Central Carolina Community College is seeking two faculty or staff members to serve as Co-Advisors for the College’s Student Senate. The Student Senate is a representative student leadership body that provides students with opportunities to participate in college life, shared governance, leadership development, campus events, and statewide student leadership experiences. The Co-Advisors will work in close collaboration with the Director of Student Engagement, who serves as the lead advisor. The advising team shares responsibility for advising and supporting Student Senators, coordinating Senate operations, facilitating leadership development, maintaining meeting structure and accountability, and connecting student leaders with meaningful opportunities to serve the College community. This is a year-round stipend assignment requiring an average commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per month per advisor, with additional time required during peak periods such as elections, onboarding, conference preparation, leadership programming, major college events, and mascot appearances. Responsibilities may extend beyond normal work hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Full-time faculty or staff member at Central Carolina Community College.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, leadership development, student engagement, and student voice.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise students and represent the College during off-campus activities and travel.
  • Ability to support student leaders in a professional, inclusive, and student-centered manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience advising student government, student leadership programs, student organizations, or student leaders.
  • Experience supporting student events, leadership development, civic engagement, or campus programming.
  • Experience coordinating meetings, budgets, travel, event logistics, or student programming.
  • Familiarity with shared governance, student advocacy, parliamentary procedure, or student leadership development.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Co-Advisors to the Student Senate under the leadership of the Director of Student Engagement.
  • Share responsibility for the direct advising, mentoring, and support of Student Senators, including providing consistent guidance, communication, accountability, and leadership development.
  • Recruit, mentor, and support Student Senators.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Engagement to coordinate Student Senate elections, appointments, leadership development, onboarding, and succession planning.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly Student Senate meetings and additional officer or leadership meetings as needed.
  • Support Student Senators in understanding and fulfilling the expectations outlined in the Student Senate Bylaws and Student Senate Commitment Contract.
  • Guide Student Senators in representing the student body with professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
  • Support Student Senators in developing leadership, communication, collaboration, advocacy, and civic engagement skills.
  • Assist Student Senators in identifying student needs, concerns, and opportunities for improved student engagement and campus connection.
  • Coordinate Student Senate involvement in college events, campus activities, student engagement initiatives, and leadership opportunities.
  • Ensure appropriate Student Senate representation and support at requested college events.
  • Coordinate coverage for Charlee the Mascot at requested college events, including communication, scheduling, student support, and coordination with event organizers.
  • Collaborate with College departments to support student involvement and representation.
  • Support the management of Student Senate budgets, expenditures, travel, and related documentation in accordance with College policies.
  • Maintain Student Senate records, attendance, meeting notes, rosters, event participation records, and other administrative documentation.
  • Support communication between Student Senators, College leadership, campus partners, and the broader student body.
  • Coordinate Student Senate participation in conferences, leadership experiences, recognition events, college activities, and other approved programming.
  • Maintain regular communication and coordination with the Director of Student Engagement and fellow Co-Advisor to ensure consistent guidance, expectations, communication, and support for Student Senators.
  • Represent Central Carolina Community College with professionalism while supporting students at on-campus and off-campus events.
  • Encourage a learning environment where everyone is supported and valued for their unique perspectives and experiences.
  • Foster and promote the participation of all members of our diverse communities.
