About The Position

Great Basin College is seeking a Recruiter to serve as a single-point of contact for prospective students. The Recruiter will work closely with traditional and non-traditional prospective students, parents, high school counselors, faculty, staff, community and industry partners to create awareness and disseminates information on the uniqueness of Great Basin College (GBC) programs, baccalaureate and associate degrees, certificates, course offerings, and support services. The Recruiter will attend college and career fairs, visit high schools within the GBC service area, conduct campus tours with the goal of raising awareness about GBC and increasing student enrollment at Great Basin College. The Recruiter is to inspire prospective students to take the first step in the college enrollment process, encourage, and guide the students to the various pathways that GBC offers to assist them in reaching their education goals. This position requires travel throughout the state of Nevada and possibly surrounding states with or without accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs and is based at the main GBC campus in Elko, NV.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of one year of related professional experience
  • Solid understanding of higher education, including its overall value
  • Demonstrate an appreciation for bachelor's and associate degrees, certificates, and the importance of lifelong learning
  • Excellent written and oral communication and listening skills
  • Ability to effectively listen and communicate with culturally and ethnically diverse populations
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, creative
  • Able to multi-task, and work efficiently under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Excellent computer application and office skills
  • Demonstrate collegiality and flexibility in working as a team member
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the recruitment process and organizational skills are preferred.
  • Previous experience in an educational setting desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the single point of contact for both traditional and non-traditional prospective students by recruiting and helping prospective students navigate through the admissions process.
  • Be a point of contact between prospective students, parents, high schools, community and industry groups, and GBC personnel.
  • Possess specific knowledge of academic programs, student assessment, student services procedures and student “life” issues is essential.
  • Develop a recruitment plan of action for the service area that will be utilized to reach target goals.
  • Participate in college and career fairs, community and high school presentations that focus on higher education, and other college related events in an appropriate and professional manner.
  • Provide campus tours to individual prospective students, high school and community groups, families, and/or new and returning students.
  • Collect contact information for prospective students and follow up with them when necessary.
  • Respond to Recruitment emails and phone messages in a prompt manner.
  • Communicate with prospective students via GBC’s CRM.
  • Create new ways to outreach new prospects and implement a marketing campaign for the targeted outreach with the assistance of the Communications Department.
  • Assist in maintaining the Great Basin College Recruitment email, webpage, and Facebook page.
  • Assist the Student Financial Services Department in scheduling and attending the Financial Aid events at the high schools and community centers within our service area.
  • Work with all student services areas, faculty, departments, and staff members to ensure that prospective students are aware of all the resources that are available to help them succeed when they choose to attend GBC.
  • Provide general advising to prospective students on class schedules, academic programs, support services, financial aid, career resources, and student life.
  • Assist students in identifying suitable career paths and navigating their education toward a credential, with insight into related job opportunities.
  • Approach sensitive issues in a thoughtful, caring, professional, and confidential manner.
  • Confidentiality is essential to this position.
  • This position requires that the person be willing to travel with or without accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), work on weekends and evenings, and, at times, have flexible hours.
  • Participate in faculty senate, college-wide and other committees as appropriate or assigned.

  • Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee’s spouse or domestic partner.
