About The Position
The course investigates the frozen ground, known as permafrost, which occupies a significant portion of Canada's landmass and Earth's continents. It examines how climate and landcover influence permafrost, the role of ground ice in landscape stability, the hydrology of permafrost environments, and the impacts of frozen ground on infrastructure and communities. Students will also gain skills in monitoring techniques and data sources. Upon completion, students will grasp key concepts of permafrost systems and major issues affecting these environments.
Requirements
- PhD in geography, environmental studies, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated work in permafrost environments.
- An acceptable level of education/experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational requirement and/or demonstrated experience.
- Competence in a second language (Passive).
Responsibilities
- Teach the course 'Permafrost Environments' (GEG4101-A00) during the 2027 Winter Semester.
- Investigate how climate and landcover affect permafrost.
- Analyze the role of ground ice in landscape stability.
- Study the hydrology of permafrost environments.
